1. e4 e5 2. Nb1c3 Bf8b4 3. d4 Bb4xc3 4. bxc3 exd4 5. cxd ...[text shortened]... back-rank # threat or the exposed king threat after exchanges on f3.
I like 12.Rb1 better in your line because it allows white to castle kingside where the doubled pawns keep him safe and the half open G file won't be a big deal because black would have to weaken his king to fully open it and the time taken to do that white can play Kh1 and Rg1 to thwart that plus 12.Rb1 creates an attackable weakness after ....Re8 and ...b6. But I am partial to just playing 9.Be2 and not having to think about all that.

I'm not sure I'd agree that the Sicillian is not for beginners. The Sicillian can be aggressive, but it can also be played quite conservatively. I've been playing the Sicillian for a long time and I'd heartily recommend it for beginners. In the closed Sicillian, if black plays d6, Nc3, Nf6, g3, Bg2 and 0-0, black actually ends up with a fairly safe, easy to navigate position. You always have to be careful about white's potential central pawn push chances (e.g., after c3 and d4), but for a beginner, you're not going to find too many more safe, more intuitive ways to protect the king.

15.axb4 axb4 16.Rxa8 Rxa8 17.cxb4 and black probably will play 17...Nxb4 18.Bc4 and where ever black moves his queen Ne5 but it will probably be 18...Qf5 as that's what he played in the other line 19.Ne5 and white has a dynamite position and I doubt black can find an adequate defense.
I was looking at that line as well when I played through the game.

Here is another thought. Early on, I think c4 as oppossed to c3 would have been better. Chase the Queen around a little.

ahh funny thing is I did not even notice that it would have been protected by my bishop intell now I think ya that probably would have opened the game up alot more.

c3 was part of a group of moves that gave me a chuckle. The moves Bb2, Qc1 and a3 all combined with c3 just make it seem like he planned to lock his bishop in and then black, in his kindness, decided to start a pawn storm that would free that bishop up..

It definitely impressed me as needless over protection and over protection of the wrong squares.

That's why I have reservations about commenting on these kinds of things. Yes, I may have a better idea than the person who asked the question, but there's always someone else who knows that my idea sucks in comparison to his.

That's why you don't get better at chess to be able to win. You get better at chess so that you can get beaten by better players.
