Here's a game I recently finished, my first loss.

Game 1116185

I would like to know where I went wrong. As far as I can tell I didn't make any mistakes big enough to lose the game, but in the final position it was hauntingly obvious I lost. Can someone find the bad move where I was losing instead of drawing? I know 18b Rf8e8?? wasn't as good as 18b Rf8c8 but I still don't think I was losing at that point. In fact I had an opportunity to force a draw but chose to play on. Any analysis would be much appreciated!

Also I can see that forcing his king to g2 was horrible for the ending I don't know why I wasn't thinking

how bout when you lost a rook for a bishop? Any material loss can be enough to lose.

yes! you are missing the point that 21. f4 is illegal.

I lost a rook for a bishop and a pawn. I had a forced draw after that, too.

46. a5 and I would have kept fighting.
So three major mistakes. Resigning, the extra thread and the thread title.

ha, lol
but would you agree that I was lost? Based on my opponents skill level, although he made a few mistakes, I could tell that I didn't have a chance to hold the draw.

Against perfect play you probably would have been ground down. Of course even the best players don't play perfectly especially in complex endgames.

Most likely you meant 17. f4 which I agree appears to be better. To see that 21. f4 is illegal click on the game link and then click on move 20b. From that position you will see that 21. f4? loses the game (I mean it's illegal, in real chess when you make an illegal move your opponent has the right to claim a win) of course here the server simply won't let you make the move.
edit oh wait unless you mean 21 ...f6 which would lose. also I'm asking analysis for after move 30, because I could have forced a draw there.

Since the black pawn would have had to move three spaces to go to f4. I think what you meant to say was f6 instead of f4.

Yeah and if you meant move twenty one: black pawn to f6 You do it like this: 21 ...f6 not 21. f4 just for future reference.

Last time you said this I showed you were wrong. Please stop trying to claim you know what you are talking about. You don't.
