White to move, and win (i think)

It was Ne8. I think the fact that it forces all his pieces to be frozen in order to prevent a mate basically seals the win. As for what I would do if 49...Bd4, I would still do 50. Nf6. The king can't move, the bishop is basically stuck on that square to protect both the pawn and the mate, so queening is pretty straight forward.
Unless you have a good response for 50. Nf6?
Originally posted by maniacmath13OK, now I see the threat of 48.Ne8 with the Nf6 followup. Black does have an escape, but he'd have to play precisely for several moves, and chances are very good that he wouldn't find it. In that case, I agree that you pretty much have a win.

Black to stay in the game (he might lose a pawn, but better than mate):
48.Ne8 Rh4+! 49.Kc5 (if 49.Ke3, then 49...Re4+, and if 49.Kc3, then 49...Rh3+) Bd3 50.Nf6 Bg6 and it's still a fight.
