Hi guys, I am preparing openings and tactics for this weekend's blitz/bughouse tournament. I was wondering if you guys have an opening playable that may be slightly unsound (something trappy), and for the most part unknown? xD. Any other tips on blitz preparation would be greatly appreciated, (it's a game in 5 min 0 sec delay.)

Also, for the bughouse part. I'm not sure if this is quite the right place to ask, but I've been wondering about bughouse openings. I've been getting ripped apart from normal 1. Nf3...2. Ng5 or something like that. If somebody has any openings, please let me know the lines, as well as the ideas behind them!

Thanks!

For blitz, play strong moves very very fast. 😏

Try the Englund gambit. 1d4, e5?!
Very few people can figure it out OTB in blitz unless they've seen it before and not a lot of people have.

The trap line goes: 2.dxe5, Nc6 3.Nf3, Qe7 4. Bf4, Qb4+ 5. Bd2, Qxb2 6.Bc3, Bb4 7. Qc2, Bxc3 8. Qxc3, Qc1#

If white's seen it they'll probably play 6.Nc3. You might want to look at that line before you play it.

There's lots of variations on the theme too. ie 5.Qd2, Qxb2 6. Qc3, Bb4. You shoud be able to figure those out on your own. Its easy to learn as long as you understand the trap line and what to do if white plays 6. Nc3.

Thanks 😉. However, I'm pretty sure that most people here have seen the Englund gambit, but I appreciate the help 🙂!

In blitz, right? Also, I'm a bit confused, after 3. d4 cxd4 how can white play d5? And no, I'm not sure if they have blitz/bug in Antartica, but I'm currently not there 🙂

Sorry, its 4. Nxd4 d5 (in blitz). Where are you now? Only asking because I have a blitz /bug tournament this weekend and I'm wondering if they're the same one.

I don't know how much this is worth, but I have seen experienced tournament players play white against the Budapest Defense OTB and get mated in less than 10 moves twice.

Hardly a scientific sample, but it sounds like the makings of a few quick kills for your format.

Great thanks! I, myself, have been playing exclusively the Budapest against d4 c4 so I'm pretty booked 🙂

And then play it with reversed colors.(start with Nf3 b3 and then e4 if he plays d5 and c5)
If black gets too greedy you can win his queen for a pawn bishop and rook.

It's called the Norfolk gambit after Claude Bloodgood who was in prison for matricide (killing your mother)

Anyways...It's a great line for blitz, I've won with it plenty of times and I suck.
I'd like to post all the lines here but you'll have to look it up, it's easy though.

Oh alright, thanks! Umm, it's a small tournament down in Arizona, how about yours?

Only good players realize their black queen is doomed and take the rook, most try to get her out of there and she gets taken.

1.Nf3...d5 2.b2...c5 3.e4!...dxe 4.Ne5...Qd4? 5.Bb2 Now black can take the bishop and lose her queen or retreat and be a pawn up but behind in development. White has attacking chances with the knight on e5 if black retreats.
