Please tell me what I will gain by being a paying member. I enjoy the forum, but would like to take part in some tourneys.

My rating is around 1230.

Are there other benefits besides being able to take part in tourneys?

You can play an unlimited number of games and you can join up to four clans (or create your own if you'd like). You also get vacation time that can prevent you from being timed out.

The main advantage I can see is access to so many different competitions. Time controls can range from blitz to longhaul (21 days/move) You also have vacation options, and unlimited games. I was a skeptic once, but RHP is a pretty good deal.😏

Since I don't play in clans or obscene amounts of games I didn't really gain "tangible" compensation for my money. But I get to ask a lot of questions to strong, friendly chess players - so I figured it's a cheap donation to a great chess community from which I benefit.

You get a secret code that lets you take moves back if your opponent isn't logged on the site.

Personally, it appears that a membership to the Internet Chess Club is much more valuable, since they give access to hundreds of chess videos and lectures, have a library of grandmaster games, and of course, allowing the user to play online. I considered both ICC and redhotpawn, and in the end, chose the former.

Yep. I used it a lot, but have not resubscribed, because it seems like a dirty way to win, and once you have the code, it's almost impossible to resist the temptation to use it.

ads/banners will disappear, too... they can be annoying. Also, having unlimited games (already mentioned) could come in handy - if you're a non-sub and already playing 6 games, you cannot accept (or offer) challenges from your friends (you've told about RHP and how cool it is) until you finish one of the games...

But thats only in tournament games, and your second move can't be checkmate. However, it's still pretty easy to win material off an unsuspecting non-sub.
