uChess has no rating restrictions and doesn't display the rating of your opponent. This creates a problem because I often find myself playing 600 rated players. This is boring and actually creates bad habits. It certainly won't help me improve.
However, I've found that I can somewhat guess if someone is below 1000 just by the username. Here are some signs:
1. All CAPS even when not a person's name like FERRARIWOWOMG
2. Many misspellings or excessive slang like IDaMan, IRulezz!, IGotsSkillz or ChiLingHomie
3. Ego masturbation like iamundefeatable, IAMGREAT, or ResignNOWHAHA!!111
4. Inflammatory names like YouSUCK11 or LiberalsAreCommies
Of course there are many exceptions but it's the best I've got. I bet I'll get flamed for this. 😛 Enjoy!
BTW: The above names are made up examples.
Originally posted by NorrisBThat's actually a pretty cool name and caps make sense. After all, if pawns are rioting, you wouldn't put them in itsy bitsy letters. Maybe I'm wrong about the caps. If it's just caps and doesn't meet any of the other three, it's not predictive. 😛
What about PAWN RIOT
I agree you can sually tell from a name.
You have missed out famous players names Fischerbuster etc.
Weaker players tend to adopt these names. (Korch 😉)
Slightly disagree with 'boring to play 600's' but know what you mean.
(especially when they refuse to resign).
Remember we were all beginners once. Make it your duty to hammer
them in the most instructive way possible.
Then send a wee message at end of game with a small piece of advice
where they went wrong. It's nice to be nice.
greenpawn = I support Hibs and play Chess
Originally posted by greenpawn34Sure, but beginners shouldn't play someone more than twice their rating. If you're 600, play some 800s or 1000s.

I agree - but sometimes if you put up a challenge you have
to play and slay them.
Also they have to play a good player every now and then to
give them a lesson - this is your job.
What I find frustrating is when you work out a combination
that starts with something a Knight attacking a Queen and then
when they move their Queen you conduct this brillo mating attack.
They leave the Queen hanging and ruin the whole thing.

I agree with the TC here, especially the CAPS in the names. I won't name players here, but the ones with CAPS in the blitz room, are either awful or arrogant, or both. (They attempt scholar's mate on me every freaking game!!!) Just wondering, what kind of player would you judge me to be by my name?
Originally posted by TyrannosauruschexYes Tyrannosauruschex, your name is brilliant and cool.
What about my name, it is chess related and clever.
exigentsky:
a 1000 player giving OTB lessons to a 600 player would be like
the blind leading the blind.
When IM Mark Condie was board one in our league team he treated 1200 players as he did the 2200 players.
That way - and these are also your words "you won't get bad habits."
I've not checked - has anybody got the name(s)
Russ_is_a_duffer or Son_of_Russ or anything along those lines?
