Please, give me an advice. How do I get a draw?

I have a game that I don't need the win, I need a draw.
If I go for a win and lose the game it wouldn’t be good. I’d rather have a safe draw than an unsafe win.

Should I trade pieces as much as possible?
Should I block with the pawns?
What should I do?

The game is in progress with 20 moves or so.
I don’t ask specifically of this game, I ask only generally.

Get really far ahead materially and offer a draw.

This question is kind of pointless, it's like asking how to win a game. Without seeing the position, it is unanswerable.

I'd give him one.

Wait till your position is slightly better then offer a draw....some people always reject draw offers if there is play in the position so dont expect that to work all the time 🙂

Threaten checkmate a few times whilst being at least 2 whole pieces up, threatening pawn promotion, various peices skewered or pinned etc. Offer the draw. He will probably accept.
Job done.

I once tried to offer a draw, but unfortunately when the move you make while offering a draw is a mating one it takes precedent.

I was most dissappointed.

If drawing a specific game means you win some larger prize and your opponent loses some larger prize, then your opponent may not accept a draw unless he is clearly losing the game (I know I wouldn't).

Its a fact of life that we tend to either meet or undershoot our goals. We seldom exceed them. So your best chance of attaining at least a draw is to aim for the win. Just don't be reckless in pursuing it. Better to undershoot a win than to undershoot a draw.

Aim for a win in order to lose.

Trading pieces sounds good.
The situation is likely to get less complicated and there are fewer possibilities for your opponent to attack. It leads quicker to a drawn end game.

Choose the safe and solid lines, instead of one that seems like a winner, but where you can't oversee everything.

It also depends on your playing style and on your opponent. If you are a born attacker, playing very defensively is maybe not a good idea.

it's pointless without giving position.trading pieces might not help as sometimes it will lead to positional advantage for ur opponent in endgame.
