im really scared when someone thats ranked 50 or more above me suddly makes a move that sets up a tactic for me or just a free piece because you dont know what they have planed and no matter how much i look i cant find anything how he could get it back and later i relize i may have done that with a few of my games when i was just moving too fast and i also find the vast magority of the games i lose is from moving to fast and not looking what HE can do just what i WANT him to do
i got a small story of this happening to me...i was playing my brother in a live game and i was up like 3 pieces and for some reason i had a brain fart and i moved my queen to a place where i was planning to take his queen and then he sat there for like 15 mins and asked why did i give him my queen...i dont know why but for some reason i forgot his queen could take me back....:'( this is the most embarrising thing that has ever happend to me 😳

If on the other hand, your evaluation doesn't hold water, and there's something that you just didn't spot despite your best effort, then it may be worth a little aggravation to watch how your opponent dismantles you after you take the "free" piece... 🙂 You may learn something about tactics or even positional play in the process, so you'll end up benefiting, even if you get trounced over the board.
In any case, if a stronger opponent seems to leave something out there for grabs, do spend a bit of extra time with the position... in correspondence chess there's no great hurry.

ohh wow it just about happened again!! In my game vrs. dant 343827 i just about moved my B to B7 to check move i think 27 or 28 him and hopefully find a check mate but then relized ....!Rxb7 Rxb7....Kxb7. i would take a winning position in anyone's book and make it crap right there on the spot (well not crap but i would be up by less) 🙄....now for the sad part....i spent 10 minutes looking at that and just about pushed move and thats when !!!!OMG BAD MOVE
