i dont think i've ever been in this situation before at an end game - my rook vs opponents bishop; if you look at the history you'll see it took me a while to discover how to actually win in this situation - i was going to draw at one stage, but i knew there was a way of doing it... all credit to my opponent though, he put up a great fight and made it as difficult as he could for me...
p.s. does anyone know if a rook can still checkmate if your opponent has two bishops..?

One time I was in the same endgame, but after a crazy game we both decided on a draw. This game pleased me a lot even though if I tried hard I could have won that end-game.
Yes the inferior side should defiantly swap pawns, this is good advice in most endgames. Although in general Korch is correct about the drawing technique, I believe in this case he is wrong. Black cannot grab the pawn with Kxa6 because Rb4 wins outright. Against a rook and a pawn black will have a hard time to set up the usual fortress.

I drew a similar game recently. Game 3301591
I could not get my opponent's king out of the corner. To paraphrase Korch, the player with the bishop should keep the king away from the same-colored corner to draw. Otherwise, it's probably a loss.

Right, it was a terrible move, but I think the game was already unwinnable well before 64. I don't see any other good moves at that point... 64. Kf6 doesn't help, nor do any rook moves. Do you see something I don't?
Anyway, I was supporting your point about B+K vs. R+K.
Originally posted by eatmybishopin this game up until 58...Ka4 black could play Bc3 and its a pretty clear draw.
