Introduction to chess strategy

Hello - Please forgive me if this has already been addressed. I am new to the game, and would like to find some good online resources (ideally in PDF format) about how to improve my game, specficially addressing openings and general strategy. Any suggestions? (I am only looking for stuff in PDF format, since that is easier to print and keep for future reference).

dont' know what a pdf format is. Others will probably chime in w/ some suggestions. If you like, we could play a game and I'd be happy to give you some pointers if I notice stuff.
