you use a chess board and play through possible variations of the position rather than working them out in your head? I've not done this but wondered if this would be considered cheating?

No,that's normal in correspondence chess.Which this is,after all.
I think the majority on here uses a chess board.I do,if I have enough time to think carefully about my moves.

The use of Databases and books are allowed as well. Though some prefer not to use them.

Only prohibited aids are Chess Engines such as Fritz or Chessmaster etc. Or other players of course. 😉

Chessnut, I have three chess boards set up in my office against very strong opponents.This is not considered cheating, it is considered good planning. I have never had one set up for you though.😀

I'm sorry Ray but if I didn't know you better I'd think you just insulted me for no reason. If you read my post I didn't say that Chessboards are not allowed, I was saying what else is allowed and what IS considered cheating.

I guess my message lost the point because I didn't end the first sentence with a 😉. I've played Ray more than once and we always had a fun game (even though he trounced me). Sorry Ray, after reading my post I guess it could look like I was mad. 😀
