I tried a kinda knight sac in the beginning and was hoping for a kind of Damiano type thing but I kinda feel as if a better player might've been able to save themself, but maybe it was sound. Any help?

I think the short answer is "no". The sacrifice 1 e4 e5, 2 Nf3 f6, 3 Nxe5 is well-known and sound, but I don't think it works with d4 and d6 thrown in. Then black's kind escapes to d7 (as is your game) or maybe Ke7 (since black can now play Be6 to help his defense).
In the actual game, blacks a6 is a mistake, I think, since he needs to develop to get his king. I think Nf6 would have been better (and then he could have played Bd6 with an extra tempo.
Best play may be 1 e4 e5 2 Nf3 d6 3 d4 f6 4 dxe5 fxe5 5 Bc4 with a nice advantage for white.
There were some pretty poor moves in that game, the knight sac seems okay but black played it poorly, 5. Nxe5 dxe5? instead should have been 5. Nxe5 Nf6 where there is no value in a flashy Nf7 Kxf7 Bc4+ idea so the knight retreats. The e4 pawn is lost, black has not got equality but he is far better off than 5..dxe5?
Next there is no point in Nd3 for the sake of trying to set a pin on the knight with king with Qe2 as Qe7 sorts that out, white can still play Nd3 but it seems restricting on the bishop, though i think may be the best move.
Here is a likely continuation
5. Nxe5 Nf6!
6. Nd3 Nxe4
7. Qe2 Qe7
8. f3 Nf6
9. Nc3 now white has an advantage in developing and will get to castle (queenside) first. A pretty boring continuation but both sides can try something different at pretty much any point.
Perhaps
6. Nf3 Nxe4
7. Bb5+ c7
8. Qe2 d5
9. Bd3 Bf5
10. Ng5 Qe7
11. f3 Nd6
I don't see anything going too exciting with good sound play, i think risks would have to be taken to really spice things up which is quite deceptive.
I haven't slept much so ignore if im chatting rubbish.
