The first Championship under promotion I have found.

White here played 26 f8=N+ to delay the mate on g2 by one move.
The shock appeared to be have an effect on Black who resigned 7 moves later.
No typo. Black resigned 7 moves later.

I laughed out loud reading this post, then had to try to explain to my gf why I was laughing... which is hard to do...

"well the one guy under promoted to a knight, to be clever, and drag out the game, instead of resigning, but then black missed a mate in one, and ended up losing..."

kind of hard to explain the humor in all of that - but I thought it was hilarious 😀

Thanks for the chuckle!

We have another, this was first under promotion to a Knight
in the Championship. (8 moves.)

mischas - bzartman1 RHP Ch 2012.

Wasn't there a RHP theme tournament with 2 . . . f5. Ever since I saw that, I have wondered about 2 . . . f5 as a black response to the King's Gambit. Seems risky but agressive, and as indicated may throw white out of book.

I've used the King's Gambit a number of times and know the theory pretty well and in my opinion 2...f5 is one of the least challenging responses for black. If black is dead set on playing a counter gambit against the KG there is almost no choice but the Falkbeer with 2...d5.

This was painful to play through. Black went from casual to casualty entirely too fast.
