Hey guys, i've seen the games played in this year's Chess Olympiad.
I came across a game played in the 1st round where Ivanchuk played against Krylov(who is about 350 ELO below Ivanchuk). The game was given as a draw but white (Krylov) should have won it. Actually a forced mate in 13 according to Fritz.
I got it in PGN format from the ICC site.
Now my question - there are doubts about what this game actually was. On CHessgames.com it gives different game. So not sure what real one is...

Intriguing... there is a conversation going on about this at chessgames.com, who have a different score as well to The Week In Chess (TWIC) reports, whose score tallies with the ICC's I believe. Anyway, one of the chessgames.com people emailed Mark Crowther who runs TWIC, and I quote the relevant passage:
'Mr. Crowther says that he thinks even the one he has is incorrect. He wrote to me: "The game was a draw and makes sense up until two moves from the end. Bet it ended Kh7 Rh8+ Kxh8 Qf8 with perpetual, not that hard to find either. There are and will be tonnes of errors in these game files, they don't really check them that much. Definitely given as a draw."'
They also point out it is odd that Ivanchuk played the Petroff (and I have to agree) and speculate that maybe he played that somewhat unambitious opening out of sympathy for his opponent, who is blind.
Originally posted by Zeratul1979It was very even in this game until 39..Kg7, and how a GM made that move I do not know. 40. Qf8+ makes it mate in 13, but 40. Qc3+ would of made it mate in 3. If he'd played 39..Kh7 then it would of been a drawn game.

Originally posted by Zeratul1979Cheers mate, but am starting to find some toughies now and my 100% record could come to an end soon. I got a game looking like a draw which I refuse to accept until it's certain and my game against Nallapuh hasn't started too positively so far.
p.s Dursley, your doing damn good in RHP so far. wish my stats looked like that
