But I know I could have done it better, if anyone reasonably good in chess would take a quick look and see if there was a way I could have done it better, or if I've made some horrible mistake on my part I'd really appreciate it.
Oh this is my first win on this site, and one of my firsts also in general :o I'm so happy, even though it was pure luck.
I am really new to chess, and I've noticed I tend to give up to fast, but I'm trying not to just resign and keep on playing. I've watched a lot of games played by strong players, and read up abit, and I know a one or two openings now, but that's about it.
*edit* finally got it to display the game :o
Game 5369524
You played relative solid until move 15, while your opponent already blundered two pieces away.
15. Nxd6 wasn't good. You probably thought you will win a pawn by this, but after 15...Qxd6 16. Qxa5, your opponent correctly continued 16...Qxg3+. After 17. Kh1 Bh3, Black threathened you with a mate on g2 in the next move. So, your Qe5 was a terrible mistake. Black should have played Qg2#. Instead of 18. Qe5, the only move you have is 18. Rg1. Black can have a draw now with perpetual checks with his Queen on f3 and f2, maybe Black has even more in this position. Instead of mating you he moved Be6, blundering his Queen away.
The following moves where just eating his remaining pieces until he was checkmated in the middle of the board.
Antway, congratulations to your first win. Hope it will not be the last one.

Black should just have taken the perpetual check with 17. ... Qh3+ 18. Kg1 Qg3+.
I would even go as far as saying 18. Qe5+ was White's "winning" move, instead of "terrible mistake". White played quite OK for someone new to the game, although the allowing of the perpetual check was a misconception and Black's play was not that great throughout the whole game (what else can be expected, but I think you want objective analysis).
I wouldn't recommend 6. f3 and 7. d4, probably in a different move order (6. d4 and thén perhaps 7. f3) it would work out better; since now you returned the plus pawn on c4. (Black ought have played 8. ... Nb6 after 8. e3 and the game is about equal)

I also see what you mean. I would have force'd his knight back and would have given him so much freedom.
Lets say I moved 6. d4, and black then moved 6. Bb4. what would be the best response in this case?

In all, I'd say you played much better than your record would indicate. I think that if you blunder checked more and focused on each move a little more, your rating would go up a few hundred points.
Originally posted by sh76I really douth that my score would go up that much, This game I was just very lucky IMO.

I think the only way to improve my game is to really just play more, and get some experience, since I miss alot of generally good moves and make some really really bad ones once I look at them at a later stage.
At the moment I try and check where each piece can move, and what piece can take it if i move it, I also try and avoid being forked, but that's not to hard if you are on the look out.
the thing that catch's me most is when lets say he has a bishop that is threating my knight, and i move my knight his bishop then takes my queen/rook that was "hiding" behind the knight. I tend to miss little things like this.

Originally posted by m00nshineWhat I would suggest is using the analyze position feature. If you want to do it offline, you can use Winboard or Arena and get into all the variations. Before you move, make the move on "analyze position" or Winboard and then "turn around" the game and say "what would I do if I were my opponent?" and actually think about it from his position. Before you play any move, play out the variation at least 3 or 4 moves down the road. That might not instantly make you a great player, but it will stop you from hanging rooks and queens.
