I am recieving Junior10 pretty soon and I was wondering how strong it would be on my PC. I have an AMD Athlon 64 bit 3200+ with 512mb of RAM and 2.19GHz.

Sweet... Lets just say it will slaughter you till you get sick of it.

Even average chess program now are pretty strong around 2200 or so on a normal computer.

The Junior 10 and your hardware should give you 2700 easily.

You could go one better with Rybka, which is strongest of all and rated at over 3000 ELO

I could but then I wouldn't get the fritz interface and GUI and all of the training modes, plus the Playchess serial#.

And I was planning on playing at the engine room on playchess with it, how would I do?

Well, you guys have sparked my curiousity. I have F9, and I just got the Rybka 1.0 BETA, because I have no need to dish out more cash on an engine! So which should work better for full analysis - Rybka or F9?

And does the Rybka BETA ONLY think for one second? Or can this be changed?

meh, junior is an ok engine. There have been some complaints about the 10 versions strength, and on my computer Spike can beat junior on FICS.

Spike is a free engine, btw.

I've just read that junior 10 won the World Computer Chess Championship this year @ www.chessbase.com. I guess that I change my mind about Rybka being better, although it does have a higher rating. Maybe its won more games, because its been around longer. I would tend NOT to question junior 10's strength though, with it being world champion. If Spike can beat junior, it must be a very early version of Junior.

Dunno what engines chessbase was facing junior against.

I would say use Fritz9, Rybka 1.0 Beta is good but it isn't as strong as the commercial versions.

And isn't Deep Junior10 the world champ right now?

well, there is currently a 200 point gap between rybka 1.0 and Fritz 9, proving rybka to be way stronger. Junior 10 is world champ, but rybka's got a higher rating than all the others, whilst still relatively new on the market.
