About commenting on games in-progress. I know this is a touchy issue so I want to clarify some things. Are all comments forbidden? Are there any exceptions?
Obviously, pointing out moves which are good or bad is wrong. What about commenting on an openig when the game is already deep into the middlegame?
Thanks.
To the best of my knowledge the rule is about advising. So long as you aren't suggesting moves or ideas, etc. you should be okay. Of course, people love to get all super righteous and freak out at anyone who says anything about a game in progress. I really don't see what would be wrong with doing something like naming an opening of a game in progress when your well into the midgame or something though.
ya, sometimes i might say (to an opening thats out of the book through a few moves) finally something interesting, ive never seen this before 🙂
i believe this is harmless.... something like this is wrong-
HAHAHAHA now you either have to go Rxf6 and lose value or run and hide and keep bad position...

or "The players are 10 moves into a Nimzo Indian," are perfectly fine....I would think.

Out of self interest, I try not to give anything useful that they might not realize, but it seems like there would be a lot more leeway than when discussion involves 3rd parties.
The reason that I ask is that I don't ever find 3rd parties interested in commenting on my games, which is what this thread seems to be talking about.
