Yeah, my Chessmaster on my mobile is pathetic as well, playing like a 800 rated player even at the highest setting. I've read that it plays a much better game if the phone has a faster processor and more memory. Unfortunately, when looking for phones to buy those specs aren't listed.
I have a samsung A920. The chessmaster on my phone seems to work just fine. I can own it on everything up to adept, intermediate it's about 50/50, and everything above that i'm lucky if I get a win.

Yeh, i spank it every time too. My phone simply doesn't have enough memory for it to find anything decent. It's annoying that you can't set it to use a couple of minutes on each move. It just throws moves out after 2-5 seconds of 'thought' which is just pointless really...

nah, mine really thinks as long as I set it...and longer I set it, better it is...usually place decent when it has 90+ seconds per move

Mine is really bug ridden. Changing the settings is a complicated art, tbh i've given up playing it altogether...
