Where do rook typically go in the KID and why? Also what does Qc2 do for white? If d5 is played then how is Qc2 effective? This is talking for the white side only of course.

Qc2 is to protect the e4 pawn and to know where the rooks go I would like to know what variation you play.

Im gonna go with the classical variation witch goes d4 Nf6, c4 g6, Nc3 Bg7, e4 d6, Nf3 o-o, Be2 e5, o-o Nc6, d5 Ne7, Ne1 Nd7, Be3...the a rook usually will go to c1 or b1 and the f rook will either go to e1 or d1 depending on the situation.

the other variation you may be talking about is d4 Nf6, c4 g6, Nc3 Bg7, e4 d6, Nf3 0-0, Be2 e5, Be3... and here just like in the last one you put your a rook either on ci or b1 and your f rook either on e1 or d1.
