They turned down Trump who offered 25% over the value of the land, I doubt they will treat any other offer any differently.

Shhhh... you're not allowed to mention that, it's un-American.*

Anyway, isn't it illegal in the USA to take that much money from a known criminal? Unless you're a politician, of course.

Indeed and nor is it a mosque. But let's not let facts get in the way of a good rant.

    So the question is:

"Would you rather have an Islamic community centre or a chess centre funded by a tinpot dictator somewhere in New York (but not at ground zero)?"

Hmm, this being a chess site we may have some selection bias.

..isn't it a place where all the moderate Islamists are going to speak out against the radicals that have given their religion a bad name?

I can't wait to see how this iconic pulpit will be used to condem those who strive to tear down a country (USA) that strives to release the binds and social injustice that the Taliban ...in the name of Muslim religion ...has put on the middle east. I'm sure this is what Islam has needed for some time!

No, it is supposed to be a place where the terrorists can be validated so that we can reach resolution. Once the terrorists are validated and their terms for surrender have been met, then the new building of peace will achieve its goals.

Silly American. You assume that peace means that the terrorists are defeated. No, we are talking about peace, not victory. There is only one way we can have peace from the Muslim point of view.
