Chessdick, people use this site for all kinds of different reasons. some people like to play very thoughtful long games using databases and books trying desperately to raise there rating a few points (you, cmsmaster, and many other). others use RHP for its excellent heated forums. some are using this site to practice blindfold chess. the point is, not everyone takes there games seriously here. so you shouldnt dissmiss someone (ivan) just because they have a lower rating.

Keep rationalizing it all you want. I don't consistently use databases. I've stated in other threads that I think they are legal and thus of good educational value. I use a database only when I'm exploring a new opening I've not played. I achieved my mediocre rating through proper evaluation of my deficiencies and a means to improve them.
I didn't dismiss Ivan. I personally don't care about someone's rating. I play to learn, and if that gets me to 2000 or 1200 I couldn't care less; however, it's obvious that there's a wide difference between a 1200 and a 1600, and making excuses about it doesn't help anyone.
So, you're making an argument that has nothing to do with what I even said. All I pointed out was that a rating is a fairly accurate representation of actual ability, and the excuses most people put forward to explain their rating are false.

I was not reffering to myself. Just telling that the rating obsession is very common on this site, and that higher rated often have tendency to make fun of weaker players
And further - We high rated don't ever make fun of those pathetic worms with low rating, no, never!
