What are people's views on this line? More interested in Black's moves.
e4 e6, d4 h6, N-c3 b6 followed next by the fianchetto by Black. Can it be so easy to develop the French Knight?

b6 is a good idea, but do it later. e4 e6 d4 d5 Nc3 and then you could play b6. Or you could do Bb4 e5 then b6.

EDIT: However, the usual reason for playing b6 is not to fianchetto, but rather to play Ba6 to trade off white's dangerous light squared bishop for your passive one.

...h6?! very dubious move, somewhat passive with the idea of preventing Bg5 moves in some of the Rubenstein setups in the French i.e. if Black plays 1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. Bg5 - that type of thing.

However, with ...b6 being played not sure what Black is trying to do - take you out of book theory I suppose.

There are some lines of the French where an early h6 can be a subtle and potent prophylactic move. However, move 2 seems a bit early.

Against the French I like to play 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Bg5 Be7 5.e5 Nd7 6.h4!?, the Chatard-Alekhine Attack. Unfortunately, most of these French sticks-in-the-mud play the Winawer Variation instead.

Ah, yes. 3...h6 can be useful against a player such as yourself.

Black also is okay after 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Bg5 Be7 5.e5 Nd7 6.h4 h6. Taking the offered pawn, however, is far more trouble than it is worth.

The exchange variation is popular among players who don't want to win as white. It presents black no problems.

It proves the Frech is good enough that white players are afraid of it.

I, too, once feared the French. That's why I now play it. When I must play against it, I usually adopt the Tarrasch, as it is the most dynamic way to meet the French.

Which is the Tarrasch and is there an online link? I'd like to start playing something more dynamic against the French.

WHy would u use a french tactic to begin with? just the word french is enough to jinx your game. How many wars/battles/skermishes have the french won?

The English language is a form of German corrupted by French as a result of the Norman conquest. After winning that war, they never really needed to win another. Their influence upon everything English, including everything American, is secure.

1. There is no Canadian Defense
2. You is spelled "you" or "tu", not "u".
3. French should be capitalized
4. There was this guy called Charlemange, maybe you heard of him
