About ten years ago, maybe twelve or thirteen, there was an article in Chess Life that introduced me to a little known variation of the Sicilian for the White player. I don't fully understand the Sicilian Defense yet and seek to throw my opponent out of his book early so I played this variation with some success. The first few moves for White are as follows: 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 ... 3.c3 ... and often an early 4.Be2 or Bd3. Does anyone know this variation name and ECO number? It is similar to 1. e4 c5 2.c3 but for some reason the 2.Nf3 before 3.c3 caused many folks to steer away from their favorite lines against 2.c3 as Black. Thanks for your help.

Mike Basman used to play it a lot (invented it?) via a
1. e4 c5, 2. Nf3 x, 3. Be2
move order.
I own a cassette he produced on the line from his audio chess series. It was quite helpful when I was learning the line.
Michael Adams has used it once or twice - including against Kasparov.
