OK... I think I already know the answer to this one... and I searched the old threads but couldn't come up with anything... so....

Can you win a King + Bishop Vs. King endgame?

Or is this game a draw?

dead draw- even in a corner, there's always a space for the king to go

On your first question: I personally can't.
On your second: It is entirely up to you to decide and I will not make any more comments related to a game still in progress.

Seriously...wait until the game is officially over before asking this question.

you cant win with JUST a king and a bishop, its a draw (unless he cooperates and resigns).

since its not possible for him to win without assistance of more pieces i dont see why we cant discuss it with him.

Yeah, there is a difference between discussing something related to the game and just basic chess knowledge. If we can't discuss everything in common with ANY game then we really can't discuss ANYTHING can we? "OH NO ITS ABOUT CHESS!!! THEY'RE PLAY CHESS TOO!!! GAME IN PROGRESS!!!"

why not just save them the trouble and tell them that the game is a draw. Black will never be able to force a mate. Even with the pawn on the b file there are simply no mating possitions. Similarly white cannot make black move the king out of the way so that white can advance the pawn and promote it. The black king will stay on b6 with the white pawn on b5. Just the white king and the black bishop will shuffle around achieving nothing.

Bc5 forces the draw since it forces the white king onto the 3rd rank alowing black to take the pawn with the king on the next move. Thus a draw by insuficient material

I repeat my request. PLEASE do NOT discuss a game in progress, even if a game is a theoretical draw, it may still end in a win for one person if the other person makes an error.

Yes, an error like RESIGNING?

even with full cooperation its IMPOSSIBLE for anyone but white to win this, and unless black was really stupid and let that pawn get by that isnt going to happen.

to say we cant discuss this is like saying we cant discuss the way pieces move because someone might have a game going that has pieces in it.

Basic Principle: It's impossible to mate with a King and Bishop against a King. As for the game, I say nothing.
