I am very angry... I specified in a previous game that I wanted to have a analytical session of a very risky variation for Black in the Milner Barry. I told my opponent that this was going to be unrated and that the use of engines was acceptable for me. I even sent him a model game of the position I wanted to reach:
1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.e5 c5 4.c3 Qb6 5.Nf3 Nc6 6.Bd3 cxd4 7.cxd4 Bd7 8.O-O Nxd4 9.Nxd4 Qxd4 10.Nc3 Qxe5 11.Re1 Qd6 12.Nb5 Bxb5 13.Bxb5+ Kd8
What happened? My opponent gets the move order wrong and ruins the theoretical discussion that I want to conduct...
Please! If anybody is interested in this exercise let me know and please do not ruin the game by departing from the line I am intending to discuss. It is very irritating...

I had a quick look at the game - what exactly are you complaining about? They played exactly the move that you suggested.

Ok - you corrected the game link just as I was about to sort it out for you.
Also use of engines is not allowed - as far as I know even in unrated games. You can't really expect your opponent to get it right, maybe (s)he was trying to find an improvement.
Originally posted by AlopintoNo, but if you read the T's & C's then it doesn't allow for it.
Are you a manager here?
I've read your initial post more carefully now, ignore my last - apart from the engines bit -people get really touchy about that kind of thing...
It is possible to set up positions and play from there.

No, but if you read the T's & C's then it doesn't allow for it.

Why is it wrong to agree with your opponent to play a unrated game using engines and all the toys available in this manner?
I believe that as long as both parties agree to it and it is in the interest of a theoretical discussion for a unrated game there is no harm done...
My opponent departed from the line we intended to play in his last move!

NO!...and if I remember correctly I made a blunder in that game... I will send you my notes...
Btw, before I receive another question like this:
I have never, ever, used engines in my games!
Originally posted by dylI agree. A bit of thought will reveal WHY engine use is banned, and it seems to me that in this kind of situation there isn't any reason why the players can't do what they like.
If the game is unrated and there is an agreement between players, there really isn't a problem. ‘Ironman vs. RHP’ and ‘RHP vs. Fritz’ both broke the TOS too.
Although, I would think it's a bit odd - why not just play against an engine directly if you really want to play against one? What do you need a human opponent for?

I have played this position against engines, I had run thematic tournaments with engines... What is missing? A human opponent that would help me out to lead me to conclude whether this position is lost or won for White. Believe it or not I want to talk about the positon as well with a knowledgeable player in general terms seeing what tactical themes apply and how to implement them....
Why does this seem odd to you?
