Dear all,
I am looking for someone to help me answer a question regarding the variation 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.e5 c5 4.c3 Qb6 5.Nf3 Nc6 6.Bd3 cxd4 7.cxd4 Bd7 8.Nc3 Qxd4 9.0-0 Qxe5 10.Re1 Qd6 11.Nb5 Bxb5 12.Bxb5+ Kd8
Is it good or bad for Black? The game is unrated and should you wish use computers, databases, etc. I am just trying to see if I can hold this position as Black and in the challenge posted I ask for this specific variation.
Kind regards,
Alopi

Apparently there is nothing wrong with it. I was skeptical about this, so I let Fritz tackle it for a while, and it basically gave White a small edge, then it petered out to equality, then I got bored. 🙂

Originally posted by !~TONY~!IM Gary Lane in his book beating the French expresses that this is bad for Black. Fritz does think that it leans towards equality but I am not so sure... I recently ran a thematic tournament at home with some respectable engines (cat 10 tournament with av rating of 2488... Boy!) [ Crafty, Ruffian, Abrok, Aristarch and Green Light Chess ] The statistics show +8 =4 -7 which are not conclussive... The best way to attack this was found by Crafty that offered the fantastic Qh5! at the end of the line (also discussed by Lane...) I will continue working on this and will give my opponent the results of my research in a unrated game I am playing...
