I have one. I got it in early '07 for the outrageous sum of $350 (I have really bad handwriting) and I think they could have made a much, much better product for little or no extra cost. For instance: For putting games on a computer, you first have to put them on an SD card and then plug it in. That required me using an extra $30. There is also no "set up position" for when you're using it to study in the absence of a physical board. The good things are the battery life and the portability. I'm sure the price has lowered a lot since, so it might be a better buy now.

No, they're still $350. I just checked the website. What a rip-off.

And I'm sure they justify the lack of features, like analysis mode, by claiming it could be used to cheat in a tournament.

thats what made it a no for me.. i was so dissapointed that is wasnt a reasonable amount. how can it really cost that much to make? all profit.

I bought one these small hand held chess playing things at a car boot
sale for £2.00 ($4.00). It's naff - they claim it's 1800. it's 800.

I too went to the website in question. Looks and smells like a rip off.
Who is Samuel Baker...

Unquote.

Maybe he started off with a rating off 75.

I don't plan on ever owning one. I can buy a lot of Bic pens and tournament scorebooks with $350. (And I don't really mind manually transferring my games from scorebook to PC.) In my club tournaments, I haven't seen anyone using one yet.
