Pretty nice tournament, Wednesday's Topalov-Carlsen was really interesting, Carlsen dominating with ease from the black side of an Alekhine.

17? Doesn't matter though, point is that he raped Topalov in a game where Topalov had white, in an opening whose reputation is clearly worse than it deserves. They played a really cool variation though:

1.e4 Nf6 2.e5 Nd5 3.d4 d6 4.Nf3 (Modern Variation) 4...dxe5 5.Nxe5 and here Carlsen could have played the Larsen Variation 5...Nd7!? 6.Nxf7!? (or possibly !! ! ?! ?...) 6...Kxf7 7.Qh5+ Ke6 when it's not clear who has the better chances - Carlsen decided to play 5...c6 instead and avoid that craziness.

Isnt Nf3 called the classical instead of the modern?

Apparently not:

http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessopening?eco=B04

According to that site it's the modern variation of Alekhine's defense.

I thought so, thanks for the confirmation there.

Anand losing with the white pieces to Aronian in the Marshall... wow. Looking at the game he didn't make any obvious mistakes either.

I disagree. Carlsen did not "rape" Topalov. Maybe you have a hatred of Topalov and look like knocking him down every time you get a chance. Why not for Topalov to bring the knight back to f3 instead of Nxd7 or even to guard d4 with c3?

Wow... a bit of an over reaction there imo. Maybe Carlson didn't rape him, but he DID out play him and fairly badly. From about half way through the middle game on Carlson's position is prefered imo.
