Years ago I read about this game and replayed it from the notes, but don't remember which book I read it in, or who the players were, although I want to say Morphy, but am not even sure on that.

Anyway, it was the best king walk I have ever seen, and I think i read that it was the most famous of all time. And if I recall, the opening was either a Three Knights or a Four Knights opening. And I believe it was played sometime in the 1800s.

Anybody here up on your chess history, and could tell me who played the game, and even better, give the moves? If you could, I would be really grateful, as I have wanted to see this game for a long time.

Short-Timman is pretty good. I can't remember where or when I'm afraid, but Short binds Jan down with most of the pieces left on the board and then walks his King all the way up to Jan's to mate. Check it out if you can find it.

I think you're referring to Morphy vs. Salmon, Birmingham, 1858.

Here is the game:

I think I'll replay that one again!

The one i remember that sticks in my mind after all these years, involved the king being luiterally forced to walk the lenght of the board, (like a dog being led with a chain around his neck!), where he was promptly execuited. It was a thing of rare beauty. And I am almost positive it was a three or more likely a four knights opening. It just eludes me who played it. I believe I read the game in the public library, about ten or more years ago.

I think you're referring to a game by Lasker against Thomas, played in 1911 I'll see if I can find the game.

Here it is:

1. d4 e6 2. Nf3 f5 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. Bg5 Be7 5. Bxf6 Bxf6 6. e4 fxe4
7. Nxe4 b6 8. Ne5 O-O 9. Bd3 Bb7 10. Qh5 Qe7 11. Qxh7+ Kxh7
12. Nxf6+ Kh6 13. Neg4+ Kg5 14. h4+ Kf4 15. g3+ Kf3 16. Be2+ Kg2
17. Rh2+ { Kg1 18. Kd2# } 1-0

Is this the game you remember?

bBar,

By golly, I do believe that was it! Thanks! (I don't know WHY the four knights opening got stuck in my head.)
