Sasikiran now leads after winning over the leader Mamedyarov. Here is Sasikiran's win over Adams in rd 6. Someone made a sarcastic comment about him early on in this forum.

I think you're referring to my "I hope he grows a set of balls" comment. However in that game (his first against Adams) it's true that he played like a scared little worm and went for a draw from the off.

Since then Sasikiran has played well and not many people would have predicted that he'd be leading at this stage. He was a little lucky in his last game, but he held on well in tremendous time pressure and took full advantage when Mamedyarov blundered.

I don't know if Sasikiran will win this tournament, but he's shown that he can hold his own with the 2700+ crowd and no doubt he'll get plenty more invitations to the high profile tournaments on the back of his performance here.

The Topov vs Mamedyarov game currently being played is a classic! I haven't done any work for the last hour because I get drag myself away from it.

I can't believe Topov played 33.Qb8, it just looks like a blunder. I guess he calculated that he was losing the bishop and knight vs rook ending and so went for this, and that he thinks Mamedyarov will have to go for a perpetual check, but it just looks winning for Black to me.

Looks like Sasikiran will lose to Kamsky. With exchange down his positions seems hopeless.

This is the game from the robot at playchess.com where you can watch other games.

I read somewhere that Kamsky lost his laptop or it stopped working, meaning he has no access to his home preparation. He can borrow my RHP analysis board if its any good. 🙂

I can pronounce most Cyrillic letters and that's often enough to be able to read Russian! It's surprising how many Russian words are English words written in Cyrillic.

To get a proper Russian to English translation I have a window to Alta Vista's translation service open: http://babel.altavista.com/tr
It's not perfect but it gives me a rough idea of what the comment means.

For English commentary, albeit from amateurs, I keep a window to http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chess.pl?tid=61797 open as well.

I`m watching that game in playchess now. Topalov have small plus, but Sasikiran can defend without a problems.

Topalov sacrificed piece for 2 pawns and initiative. Due to time trouble Sasikiran made mistake and now Topalov is winning.
