why is it that this site has
novices who make such bold and ignorant statements that I'm left stunned by their stupidity?!

When I was a pure novice I was STILL SMART enough to know I was ignorant and a novice!...I never, NEVER said something as stupid as I think the Sicilian, used by Kasparov, Fischer etc simply sucks\.

I would never list combinations as correct where I make black play intentionally losing moves.

I would never say hey I invented this defense to e4...I play e5! or a really great way to open a game is by playing e4! since it releases the queen and bishop as if this were a new idea.

Yes, I was a novice but I never made such statements...they are laughable. Where do these people come from? I bet this carries into other parts of their lives.

You're totally right, people come here to say this opening sucks,I found a great defense here,I don't like this move whenthey're not even good at transcripting right the notation, assuming opponents are completely patzers.
There's a lack of humility in newcomers..............
Yesterday I played a guy to try the Traxler counterattack I recently discovered, but it failed miserably and was losing bad;well,my opponent started to say that he was going to win and asking''how is your queen?'' ''how she feels now?'' when he was about to capture it................see the end of the game.

Game 593564

As I said,a complete lack of humility.

People who message you with humiliating remarks during the game should be reported. Trouble is some (usually younger) players think chess is like street basketball where all this "in your face" talk is part of the game. It isn't.

Well I've been fortunate that I have not experienced this in a game, but of course I've seen it on the forums.

I'm gonna say that it's all just a result of youth and ignorance. They just don't quite "get it". And I don't mean ingorance in an insulting way either. I truly don't. I mean they just haven't had enough exposure to chess and the written and unwritten rules of the game.

I think we should just lead by example and hope the good ones stay and the bad ones either change or move on. I think Buddy2's remark about street basketball is right on the money. I supose a lot of the younger players treat chess as if they're playing a video game online and chatting with or taunting their opponents as they play.

On the other hand I have played quite a few very young players and have found them to be quite nice. I guess it's a case of the bad ones tending to stand out more than the good ones.

Well, in their slight defense, in some contexts, it is. Playing "street chess" in any number of cities incorporates more trash-talking than you could possibly imagine. In this context, it's contrary to the general norm, but I could see how someone who plays in, say, Dupont Circle (D.C.), Santa Monica beach (L.A.), Canal St. (New Orleans), etc. etc. (I'm not sure if the same applies in Washington Square Park) would think it's entirely appropriate to talk feces 🙂

Maybe I'm missing something here, but how on Earth did he miss 32.Qxb3?

You are a bit too harsh IMO. The more you learn, the more you understand how little you actually know and vice versa:-) Take into account that chess is not popular everywhere, many chess players are isolated. Places like RHP fill these gaps and should encourage newbies, not discourage them. After all, we all were newbies at some point and made "great" discoveries, which would seem obvious or just stupid for better players. And, moreover, it is probably still so: something which I'm finding interesting and new, will hardly be of any interest for the master.

Right. I enjoy playing in my club where chess etiquette is enforced, but I also enjoy chess in the local bar where fight could start over touch-move rule😀

When a player first starts to look at openings and study in general, it is not uncommon for them to see other moves not given in the book or paper that look good. It is only when that player actually becomes a good player that they will realize that what they saw was in correct. If someone posts some moves that are bad, then they should be helped out. I assume you were refering to AJmajician when you posted here. Well, he PM'd me as i offered him some help. The notation he posted in another thread was wrong but he is genuinly keen to learn the game and i think you should cut him a little slack, we were all new to this game once.
