Thanks, Greenpawn, I guess you're right; I needed to create some kind of threat instead of just curling up and dying. Rg1 did cross my mind, but it just seemed too easy to defend against. ...g6, for instance... But I see what you're saying; getting the opponent to react to you can be a good strategy. I just wish I had the nerve to sac pieces in a scary posit ...[text shortened]... o the defensive, but just end up dying a slow death. Thanks again. That was very enlightening.
Most of chess is trying to create a weakness just because he can defend easily by ...g6 doesn't mean you shouldn't play it. After ...g6 his king is weakened and you have open file leading right to his position. So you HAVE to use that file somehow anything else is just too passive. ...g6 allows you to run your h or f pawn down the board to attack that pawn. If white plays ...f5 or h5 to prevent this then he creates further weaknesses and and you would attack the f pawn or the h pawn forcing black to move his king off the g file(most likely to f8 because h8 will leave f7 weakened) and then you can post your queen on h6 or f6 and so on and so forth... The point is that you CANNOT just sit around doing nothing. You HAVE to give yourself something to play for.

Hi guys.

after g6.

White can simply take the h6 pawn then it really does look grim.
