I don't know what program defeated Kasparov, but I have Chessmaster 10:th edition lying around. It has tutorials, courses and a vast database with openings and all kinds of stuff. Great program for learning chess.

Of course, the only way to get real good is to play a lot and study your games to see where you went wrong and what you did well. This site has a terific analyse link acompanying every game so you can do it in your own pace too.

tactics ct-art 3.0 its like $35 or so online you can search for it.

Chess playing program to learn chess go with chessmaster. For a strong engine which will analyse and destroy you go for the chessbase products, fritz,junior etc..
