New to FICS

Hi all,

I just registered on FICS a few days ago, and have been enjoying the games. However, I have a few questions

First of all, I was rather surprised that after my 20 provisional (blitz) games my rating was only about 1400 or something like that. I'm curious as to how other people's ratings here compare to their FICS ratings.

I also played a few games which I thought were pretty good, and wanted to review. However, I haven't found a way to view my past games. They don't just get deleted, do they? Also, if I want to get a specific game in pgn format, is there a way to do this?

the rating scale on FICS is quite dense. 1400 is above average.

if you use babaschess as a client, you can set it to store your games on your hard disk. on the server itself, you see your last 10 games listed by typing 'history' into the console window. you can then examine them.

try typing those for starters.

I joined fics about 1 month ago or so too. I`ve played a lot of blitz games on there and I`m established at 1800 blitz more or less. I sorta predict add 400 points to equal fide rating at least at the 1800 level in blitz.

My blitz rating on FICS is a little below 1400 and I don't think I'm good at blitz.

The standard on fics is quite high - I rarely cross the 2000 barrier, and tend to be around 1900 most of the time.

I'd imagine there is a difference between types of blitz ratings at FICS. I play 10 minute games, so I probably don't play many 5 minute blitz players.

Yeah, there is a little group of players I recognise who play 3-0 - nobody really plays any lower time control on there but you do get a pretty decent game in those time limits.

I went off anything over 5-0 after too many people ran engines against me, now I would only play somebody at that time limit if I knew them.

Does anybody of you play buckholz on FICS? Or do you think I should open a new topic on this?

It's been a while since I used fics.

IIRC there is an option to tell it to mail the games to you when it is over. I thought it was possible do do the same on history too.

My blitz rating on FICS is somewhere around 1300, but "standard" is closer to 1800, where standard was still pretty darn fast.
