Five years ago, I played some awful games on Yahoo and saved them for future learning. What could I have done in this game to (a) stop the threat against f7 and (b) take advantage of White's time-wasting with his knight? I know it's hard to analyze awful games but it's only a few moves:
1 e4 e5 2. Bc4 Nf6 3. Nf3 Nc6 4. Ng5 d5 5. exd5 Nxd5 6. Nxf7 Kxf7 7. Qf3+ Ke8 8. Bxd5 Bc5 9. Qf7# 1-0
I'd put the ?'s in but there are too many! Thanks.

I think the simplest would have been 7...Ke6. If needed the Knight can be further supported with Nce7.

Hey, that might have been versus me! I played several games with this uncorrect system as white ( 6. d4 is better than Nxf7)

If black knows this line very well and plays 7. Ke6 it will lead to an advantage for black. but in blitz its a nice suprise weapon to have in ones arsenal.

7...Ke6 is the book move for the Fried Liver Attack. It is actually the only move that does not lose.

Nxf7 is OK for White, it is playable.

I thought that may be the famous Fried Liver Attack, but wasn't sure. I never see it as I am a 1d4 and Caro-Kann player.

Famous? More like infamous it's highly questionable and only works against little noobies 🙂

Yep, that's the Fried Liver or Fegatello. (I had never heard of it in then.) I thought it might be as I was copying the moves. I'll check out your helpful comments on the board. Thanks!

5...Nxd5 is wrong too. After 6.d4 white has a strong attack. I think Na5 is the usual move.
