Ask Korch for his opinion (User 124624) 😉

After Nc6, the game can transpose into a million other things - it sort of seems that black must prepare for all the K pawn stuff (Spanish, Italian, 4 Knights) and the classical center stuff after d4. Allows white a lot of choice...

Well if opening practice is what you're going for then perhaps it's not so bad an idea.

I lost the only game i played against the Nimzowitsch 😞 in blitz, but it was due to a late blunder.

I played 2. d4. Any good alternatives?

Who says black ever has to play ...e5?

Seems fine to me, black can choose many transpositions or play something crazy - maybe 2...b5? 🙂

Check out both of them and then choose to study system which you like more.

Pretty hypermodern of you! Self imposed restraint in development? Perhaps as White you could try 1. Nc3 and in response to any black move - 2.Nb1!! :-)

cms is right - black is not obliged to play e5. For example:

1) 1.e4 Nc6 2.d5 d5 and its white who will play 3.e5
2) 1.e4 Nc6 2.Nf3 d6 with no intention to play e5 so soon - as I know possible plan for black is to play Bg4 and e6.
