Nc6 is not really logic is the pirc, it is usally c5 or Nxe4 when Bc4 is played, it is perfectly playable.

Don't forget the game is played on a cellphone and the cellphone does not have opening manual.

Actually the plan of 6.. Nc6 and then 7 ..Nxe4 means after

then white's d4 is weak.

Maybe out of topic, but I'd like to ask about chess on mobile phone. I got Chessmaster on Nokia somewhere from the Internet. Playing as black, everytime I do c6, we always go into the same variation of Caro-Cann (well, actually I only played 4-5 times). I wonder if anyone here knows if other variations may be played by the CM in Nokia? Otherwise Caro-Cann as a whole may become boaring on the phone.

Maybe someone like Greenpawn can shed some light but I believe the mobile phone versions of the leading chess programs are weak due to lack of processing power and lack of resources like opening manual etc.

I just play it to entertain myself.

Yes, I play on my mobile only when I'm waiting for something. So, it's OK if nobody here knows a lot about mobile CM openings.

If you want a stronger mobile opponent, I'd recommend Pocket Fritz. I run it on an XDA, which is basically a PDA with a phone built in, but I think it will also run on a Blackberry and all sorts of other devices.

The main playing engine is very strong - far too strong for me - but there are some 'beginner' modes which are more reasonable. There is also a nice 'tactics training' mode, where you have to find mate in 2,3,4 against the clock. Just the thing for a long train journey ...

Eh?

This is a joke right?

Greenpawn is a dinosaur when it comes to these new fangled things.

I don't even have a poxy mobile.

I still write letters. (and they email a reply) 😳

When was the last time any of you had a handwritten letter from
a friend or relation. It's a dying art form.

I don't remember when was the last time I received a handwritten letter. But I wrote a few of them myself about 3-4 years ago to the person who is now my wife.
There is something about them...

I have Shredder mobile loaded on to my Sony Ericsson K800i and it's a pretty strong programme. On the lower settings up to about 10 secs per move it is a good training tool. If you play it on 30 secs per move or above you are dealing with a master strength chess programme!

I guess that's the answer, I didn't play the top difficulty level. I played about 10 secs per move to have a chance against it 🙂

You mean you are a chess journalist of sorts (using blog software etc) and you are illiterate when it comes to something basic like a mobile phone? Are you flattering to deceive?
