Don't waorry about it Silver.
If you type in 'cannot castle' in the 'search forums' you will find dozens
of threads all missing the same rule.
And it is a rule: You cannot castle through check.
I doubt if that is violating the GIP rule.
You are not giving advice on what to play, you are advising what is illegal to play.

Hey, it was mate.
Oops, I was wrong. You had other legal moves besides Qb7. Oh well, at least you won.
Don't feel bad about that 3rd party assistance. It was an honest mistake.
True; and this is a friendly site. Rule enforcement is highly optional.

🙂
It just seems so cold to shrug your shoulders and tell the lad to go to FAQ.
Even after he does he still might know what he looking for.
He has just been reminded of the rules. The laws of the game. nothing else.

"So if you are playing a child in a tourney and his coach comes over and

No. Nobody asked the coach interfere.
We are talking about illegal moves, moves that are against the laws of the game.
If this boy had castled through check I would first look to see if I could
take any advantage of it, safe in the knowledge that if I screw it and am
getting beat then I can stop the game and restart from where the illegal move was made.
In this situation the player cannot play his intended move.
The system will not let him. We have told him why.
Nobody has suggested alternatives moves or how he should continue.

if he could castle if his rook passed through an attack?
I'm sure if this is true GP will know the game, year and tournament!
Originally posted by greenpawn34Amazing how something as seemingly innocent as asking about the rules of chess can generate such heated, erm, argument (sort of) on both sides.

Funny, but also a little scary. I've never visited any of the more controversial forums here. I'm a little scared to now.
