LOL
Nimzo isn't an obscure defense...
First, the Nimzowitsch Defense:
1 e4 Nc6 - 12,000
Then, some more common replies to e4:
1 e4 e5 - 395,000
1 e4 c5 - 692,000
1 e4 g6 - 45,000
1 e4 Nf6 - 42,000
And, let's look at some other common opening moves:
1 d4 d5 - 262,000
1 d4 e6 - 44,000
1 d4 Nf6 - 628,000
1 Nf3 d5 - 62,000
1 Nf3 Nf6 - 123,000
So, out of all these, I'd say the Nimzowitsch Defense is by far the most obscure. Still, there are, of course, much more obscure openings. The Owen Defense, for example, 1 e4 b6 accounts for only about 4,000 games in my database. So, the Nimzowitsch Defense is less obscure than the Owen, but it's still quite obscure. Of course, this isn't the most scientific test (it doesn't take in to account transpositions, for example), but I don't think it's far off the mark.
And, yes, I am undefeated on every site except the ones I play on. 😉
