Obviously it's outrageously overpriced, but I want this thread to be about its appearance. I don't think I've ever seen a Staunton-style chess set that is less aesthetically pleasing, but perhaps that's just me. If you like it then please explain what it is about it that you find pleasing. If don't like it, but have seen worse, then post a link to a chess set which is uglier than this one. Stauton-style only please, there are plenty of ugly novelty pieces around, but this one is supposed to be a set for serious players.

The knights don't look too healthy from the side, the neck/body is a bit gaunt for my liking.

My guess is that Magnus liked them, however.

Yuk. Badly proportioned, each on its own, as well as with respect to the board (they look cramped on that board). Outrageously over-priced, too.

It is naff. I would not want it even as a present.

I picked up the Simpson Chess Set for £2.00 recently at a junk shop. (pic next Blog).
It looks better and is worth more.

Maybe as a limited edition set autographed by both players. But my plastic set from 35 years ago still functions as a chess/checkers set.

The pawns look like they have been forced to wear turtlenecks and are not too comfortable with them.
