Well you know I have been dying of the flu for the past few days so had
to take time off work.
Just phoned in again this morning telling them I was not fully fit.
Told not to bother coming back.
They can do that as I was only there for a few weeks.
So that's another job gone up the river.
But not to worry. Logged back on the net to look for another job.
Hit here to see what you lot have been doing and you know you get those
three checkmates every time you log on?
I always give them a quick peek to see if one looks interesting. Found this.
The Battle of the Tempo
Standard Giuoco Piano then both players get ideas.
the a1 & a8 Rooks are attacked and mutually captured.
Interesting moment here, Black to play. (the diagram is correct).
Does he nick a pawn with 15...Nxc2+ giving us this positon with White to play?
Or does he ignore the pawn 15...Qxa8 and take this postion with Black to play?
The lad took the latter and I think I would too.
The tempo, the out of play WQ plus the awkward ...e4 as played in the game
looks good enough to reject the pawn steal.
The lesson being, just because there is a trick in the position
one need not automatically play it. Look to see if it is actually a 'good move'
(did he miss Nxc2+ I say no cos he slipped in an in-betweener later on
in the game so had his wits about him. I think not playing it was a decision
and not an ironic good move).
Back to the match report:
Black slips an in-betwen-move gaining a tempo on the h1 Rook.
Material is dead level but passed pawn on g2 and exposed
White King is telling factor.
White offers Queen off but only succeeds in blocking King flight square,
(though to be fair he is lost ) and White is mated.
Here is the game. I'm going back to bed.

The idea 22.Rxd4 Qf2+ !! makes it even nicer.
I might be wrong, but I would think not capturing the pawn is a mistake. Not only you get a pawn, you cut the nice 4-pawn chain and wreck the nice white skeleton. Plus, doesn't b4 activate the queen again pretty quickly?
Edit : Ok maybe it's true black has too many threats with the other move. Good position.

If they behave in this way you may be better off without them.
Hope you find something better soon.
