Old Greenpawn got an Award.

Old Greenpawn got an Award.

Only Chess

So I had to do one more Corner to commemorate it.

Cartoons, book reviews (old and new), Games....etc.

Pics of me getting the award and with the Lewis Rook.
Worth the mouse click itself.

Congratulations! And I thought it was very nice that, amidst all the great chess content, you managed to slip in a picture of a blond hottie holding a chess book.

Hottie with chess book. I had a sudden urge for a cigarette, and I don't even smoke!

...and quite a few VHS cassettes on your table! you still watch them? how do you playback them - do you need a steam-powered device for that or something? 😉

p.s.
right, they make a nice shelf, it seems...

Congratulations GP, and great to see a new cornered, especially the eye candy holding the chess book.

Congratulations and well done!

However...

Dave is not to be confused with Archibald of the Archibald Gambit.
That was Sally Archibald one of the very few woman players who has
an opening named after her.

Dave is Sally after the operation.

He should club you with his trophy for that comment 😀

Hi

Dave knew the moment I took the picture he would get a slagging.

I do not wish to open (yet again) another debate about
men v women and chess.

But I cannot think off hand of any opening that bears a woman's name.

Anybody got one?

(The Queen's Gambit does not count).

Congratulations GP.

Ten years is a lotta work that you put in so the award is well earned by hard work.

P.S. I think the Queen`s Gambit should count.

Who needs an opening named after a woman when the current rules were called "Chess of the Mad Queen" back in the 1700's.
Angela

P.S. I am fairly certain that the Queen's Gambit is indeed an opening

Hi Cass.

Correct, but if we are going so far back in time then the original
name of the Queen's Gambit was The Aleppo Gambit
which was the birth place of Stamma (1705–1755).

I guess more men were playing Chess when the openings were
being catalogued.

Who ever came up with the idea of naming the openings was gifted.

If not then the covers of chess books would look quite hidious.

CHESS:
The 1. e4 e5
2. Nf3 Nc6
3. Bb5 a6
4. Ba4 Nf6
5. O-O Be7
6. Re1 b5
7. Bb3 O-O
8.c3 d5
Varition.

Much easier to call it The Marshall.
