I've been using the Shredder opening guide while I play - I find it quite useful:

    http://www.shredderchess.com/online-chess/online-databases/opening-database.html

I wouldn't have a problem having anyone else use it against me and its within the rules of the site.

I also have been using this Opening guide while I play:

    http://www.eudesign.com/chessops/ch-clear.htm

It is a data base too but also offer the pros and cons of each position. I was wondering if it is bad form to be using it as I play.

Is it too much like an engine?

    Opening Book. Fine.
    Database. Fine.
