wondering if anyone has tried this, an engine tournement in fritz on a particular opening line to see what moves are better, and why based on what hte comp uses and making the moves with the best win ratio their main move for future play
example:
Fritz 7 Vs. Crafty 18
1.e4 e5
2.Nf3 Nc6
3.Bb5 a6
4.Ba4 b5
5.Bb3 Na5 {I set this position up because I play the Ruy and was wondering how best to proceede}
I found that if white castles and black captures the bishop white usually wins, hoever when fritz plays white he usually takes the pawn on move 6 and usually loses, I also found crafty wins most of the time because for some reason fritz will not castle on move 6 as white. So the theroy is crafty is probably better then fritz, but if I set up the postition after the castling point and the Knight-bishop exchange will white always win no matter if it is crafty or fritz with the white pieces?
agin it is a hypothetical situation as humans a prone to make sacs and blunders to radicaly alter the game. In fact thats is how I came upon the problem in the first place, I loaded the same position in the GNU winboard and had it play itself on 1 minute games and i saw and interresting if not wierd series of moves that it always played,
Example
after the initial set up
6.Bxf7+!? Kxf7
which led to the a Knight sac then the queen cheked the king and eventually forked the king and rook on a8. such a loss of material fritz would never choose that line but... I can set up that position and run a mini tourny of the engines and see what the WLD % is and if white is winnning I would probably consider useing it as a scare tactic. Any thoughts? Later I will run mini tournys with other openings variations to the Ruy, and the Carro Kann my fav blav opening
