Hey everyone! I was looking over games of a particular opening strategy which was apealing to me. I have not been able to find these games since and thus have not been able to identify which opening these games were displaying. The best way I can explain it is that the opening usually ended with the Queen on b3 and a bishop on c4. I was wondering if anyone knew of any opening strategies that correspond with these positions. Thanks in advance!

It sounds a little Like the Bishops opening....

the position is easily acheived by playing: -

1.e4 e5 bc4 nc6 c3 Be5 Qb3

^thats the quickest way to do it, Not necssarily the best...

The opening was likely the mainline of the Giuoco Piano:

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Bc5 4. c3 Nf6 5. d4 exd4 6. cxd4 Bb4+ 7. Bd2 BxB+ 8. NxB d5 9 exd5 Nxd5 10 Qb3 Nce7 11 0-0 0-0

Thanks everyone minus Jusuh, all the information was really helpful. And I beleive it was the Giuco Piano. Is Qb3 a standard move for the Giuco Piano or an uncommon variation?

I'm not sure about the Giuco Piano but it is in the Evan's gambit.

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.b4

White gives up a pawn to create his pawn center faster and develop faster.

4...Bxb4 5.c3 etc... with d4, 0-0, Qb3 and strong attack by white.

Evan's Gambit! That's it. Thanks for the help RahimK. BTW, if anyone gets a chance could you tell me what the most common openings are today?

The Spanish Opening remains the most popular. The Berlin Defense has been growing in popularity within the Spanish variations.

At the highest levels, the Sveshnikov Sicilian and Petroff Defense have grown immensely in popularity over the past few years.
