Dont believe that "good shot at winning" crap, just because you have a GREAT opening. If you believe that, try backgammon and stick to that 😉

do YOURself a favor and open your mind.

I don't know who told you all that stuff but it isn't true...if you learn the IDEAS behind openings instead of trying to memorize the 19th move of the Petrossian variation of the whatever defense it DOES help and ALL great players (i'm not including me) AGREE with this point.

you should know middle game ideas and placement of pieces and yes, as I said before, perhaps strategies like minority attack (e.g. in QGD) key sacrifices (e.g. on the C file when black is attacking a long castled position in the Dragon Sicilian)

Be my guest, do it all. Do the Petrosian, Dragon, minority, Sicilian, Long castled Position in the Dragon Sicilian. Whatever ya wanna call it. Sounds good, but no cigar pal. Aint gonna help. If it does, you should be a 2000 rating by Nov. 30th. I'll be watching your rating in the meantime and I will retract ALL my statements, if you hit a 2000 by Dec. 15th. I'll say I was dead wrong and feel very embarrased.

Hmm, and yet you play according to opening theory in your games. How odd.

Wow TRAINS44, a 1900+ rating with no opening theory, that is impressive. You are undoubtedly a great talent.

Why thank you. See, you dont have to be a college grad to play chess. I play checkers even better. 😉

Next, you'll be telling the feebs that you just 'happen to play the same lines in the books, due to natural talent', or some happy horse sh!t like that.
