Anyone know if there's anything in the USCF rules which specifically prohibits the wearing of headphones during a game? First tourney tomorrow (4 rounds - swiss) and I always play better w/Mozart. 😉

I sometimes take my mini-radio with me to chessclub, but I mostly listen it after game or while kibitzing other games. But in internet...i seem to play lot of better while listening right type of music.
About rules, I dont know is it acceptable or not, but i guess your opponent might be offended.

Naturally I'd keep the volume down low enough where he/she couldn't hear it... why should they be offended?

People can even get offended if you look at them sometimes so this migt be a bad idea. (also makes your opponent think you aren't really thinking about chess)

I tryed listening to metallica while playing OTB. It was the worst game I ever played!

There was the guy a while back who cheated by having someone wirelessly transmit the correct moves to him from outside the hall. So you might be looked at a little suspect for wearing headphones. I wouldn't suggest it.

I saw a open tournament the other day and a guy was using headphones to listen to music while he played so I dont think its against the rules.

I was listening to the Italy-Ireland rugby game on earphones at a chess tournament last weekend and nobody minded!
