Yesterday I played a game with my 8 year old son, admittedly I wasn't concentrating that hard, but amazingly I lost my queen & two rooks to the same knight in 3 of the most consecutively daft moves you've ever likely to see on a chess board. Funniest of all was that on each move I didn't even realise the mistake, until he was halfway dropping the piece back in the box. 😳

You should be proud, now go lock him in a room with a library of chess books and a wise master. Tell people he's Russian too, that seems to help in that line of work.

When one of my daughters was about 7 years old I taught her to play chess. Of my four children the moves she made were so clear and crisp and she seemed to make them effortlessly. She went on to be the first female chess champion of her elementary school, then won almost every game she played in Junior High School, then inexplicably stopped playing chess altogether in High School and has not returned to it since. I've always thought of her as a female version of Paul Morphy but I'm glad she did not go mad, she just went away. ;-)
