Anyone know what happened to her?
We're in the middle of a really good game of Alekhine's Defence, where I'm a pawn up and I don't think she has full compensation...
she's got 8 hours of timebank left, and its depleting. I told her I'd give her an extra week and then wait until I need the open spot, but I really do want to play this one out...
if nothing else, I'll just bring the game to the forum and we can battle it out. but I really want to know: Where in blazes is she? no vacation flag or anything...

A couple of things:

1) She has over 6 days of timebank remaining in a 1/7 game. Have a little patience.

2) She has a bishop to show for the pawn.

no, try she has 6 HOURS of timebank remaining, and no, I'm up a pawn.
Edit: oh crap! I don't remember hanging that Bishop!
crap, I castled a move early...
that blows hard.

Well, you are right about the HOURS. Though I'm guessing you wish it were the other way around 🙂

You'd really rather win by timeout when a bishop down than to be able to contine the game up a pawn?

It's too bad there isn't a facility for being able to claim a draw instead of a win when you're obviously down and your opponent runs out of time.

obviously down + opponent runs out of time = 100% win

The clock is an essential part of the game.

What next... I get an advantage in a game, and rather than risk playing for the win and maybe losing, I let my time run out so I can have a guaranteed draw? No chance.

Maybe my post wasn't clear. I was suggesting that the claimer has choice between a win and a draw. As for me, I'd give them a draw. You can let you own conscience decide.

well, I'd love to give her a draw...
but that means waiting until she comes back, which means she'll just move as normal, and I have to wait longer for a game with ih8sens. Valenka's right, time controls are there for a reason...
besides, she's not up a full bishop.

I understand that since a facilty isn't currently available for the claimer to choose between a win or a draw, you are stuck having to choose between claiming an immediate win upon timeout vs. waiting indefinitely for someone. I'm only suggesting that it'd be nice if there was a choice of claiming an immediate draw upon timeout.

Are you talking about changing the rules of chess? Or suggesting RHP makes an exception to the rules in this area?

This is correspondence chess. Life happens. I don't think it'd be a bad thing to give the claimer the choice of allowing for it. For those who have the "a win is a win" attitude, nothing would change other than someone might on occasion give them a break.

I dont think "she" is a girl at all. Patzer and girl are usually words associated with weak chess - it is obviously a ruse to lull people into a false sense of security, thinking they are playing a bad player
