I have an opponent in perpetual check. We've already repeated the same poisiton three times. Is there a way to force the draw if they won't accept it?

According to the FAQ there is a 'claim draw' option.I haven't had this yet so I don't know exactly what is supposed to happen.I would assume an extra button appears besides the board?

Click the "claim draw" button before making a move which leads to a third position. Then make the move.

Will that make it automatic? He's refused when I gave him the option

Yes, if the proper conditions are met 'claim draw' should make it a draw immediately (unlike 'offer draw' which gives the opponent a choice).

I just noticed there's always a 'claim draw' button when it's your move LOL

That is because the site developers are purists.

Many programs automatically declare a draw when 3 repeat is done, but the official rules require that they be claimed.

If they "claim draw" suddenly appeared only when it was available,
that would constitute a hint. You notice the claim draw button and
go back and study extra hard to figure out why. That would be like
having a grand-master observe your OTB game and say "would you like to claim a draw?" anytime that option comes up. Your opponent who is hoping you want notice would be getting an unfair shake.

Instead, it stays there always so extra attention is not brought when
it is actually available.

We should tip our hats to the site owners.

I also suspect the processing power needed to go and check if a position had been repeated three times on every single move made on the site would be prohibitive.

I did 'claim draw' once, after the same position occurred in the moves 49, 63 and 65 or something. The effect was immediate draw. Fascinating!

No pawn moves or captures in 17 moves? I guess that's possible if an attack only involves checking.

Anyway, I guess it's kind of a good thing that RedHotPawn has these rules. Otherwise some people might be kind of lost in an actual tournament.

He tried to infiltrate my territory from the right, when he failed he tried on the left, when he faild that too, he tried on the right again. I didn't do more than moving my king an bishop to hinder him. When he had the same position thrice I clicked the 'claim draw' link and, voilà, I got it.

You can always try the link if you don't know for sure, doesn't cost anything.

When I've found the game, I'll show you.

I found the game: Game 2304946
The same positions at the move 53, 61 and 63 gave me the draw.

The draw must be claimed, just like in real chess. It is very likely that positions will be repeated three times and go unnoticed. This occurs when the repititons aren't right in order one after the other but occur after lots of other maneuvers into other positions but then work their way back again.
